03 Oct North London Collegiate School – The Jeju Island Experience
This has been a most interesting and enjoyable week. I’ve spent it at North London Collegiate School, Jeju Island, South Korea. If you have never heard of Jeju then its a delightful, semi-tropical, green and verdant island situated off the coast of South Korea, just a one hour’s flight from Seoul.
I’ve been at NLCS at the invite of Paul Friend, the school Principal.
Paul and his first-class senior management team organised an excellent 3-day professional development conference for all the staff, and I was part of that. I delivered lectures on Professional Identity, Leadership and Management, Soft Power and Globalisation, and had individual meetings with many teachers to discuss curriculum, career, and management/leadership issues.
What was rather unique about this PD conference was the variety of the guest lecturers:
Dr Piers Burshill-Hall; Dr Rachel Bryant-Davies; Judy Brown; Tim Gerrish; Annabelle Helen Wilkins; Dr Edward Nesbit.
This was truly a top-notch group, with an impressive range of knowledges, experiences and skills. It was great to work with them and make new friends. The teachers got exposed to a lot of new and exciting ideas and I have no doubt that the three day conference will impact on the school culture in the most positive of ways.
Thanks to everyone for a really memorable week!
